Event Description: I am happy to invite you to the next event in our series of “Innovation Plaza” business networking cocktail evenings, taking place next Wednesday, February 24 5.30pm "Innovation Plaza" networking events are designed to create opportunities for connectivity and collaboration among members of the local technology community. They are intended for those who understand that the New Economy is all about the power of networks and networking. They are structured to provide a focal point for commercializing new technologies, seeding exciting new companies, and expediting the flow of ideas about markets and technologies. And they provide a deliberately informal and interactive setting that stimulates interaction, co-operation and engagement. Most importantly, though, "Innovation Plaza" provides a place for creative, innovative and entrepreneurial souls to rub shoulders with local and international industry leaders and high-tech "movers and shakers". I am pleased, therefore, that this event in the "Innovation Plaza" series will play host to one of the world’s foremost scientific minds, Kent Knaebel, PE, PhD, who I am thrilled to have visiting us in the Okanagan. Dr. Knaebel is one of the world's leading “adsorption” experts, teaching short courses on adsorption technology in both the U.S. and Europe. In addition, he is editor-in-chief of the journal Adsorption and is the founder and a former president of the International Adsorption Society. He has co-authored the textbook Pressure Swing Adsorption, as well as the Mass Transfer chapter in the 7th and 8th editions of Perry's Chemical Engineers' Handbook. He is also the founder and president of Adsorption Research Inc. (ARI), one of the most respected companies in its field that focuses exclusively on the science and technology of adsorption. Dr. Knaebel is visiting the Okanagan as a guest of local companies, WearAir Oxygen Inc. and WearAir Industrial Inc. (http://www.wearair.com/), and has kindly agreed to share his insights and perspectives with members of the ORIC community on the topic: “Carbon Capture Techniques via Adsorption”. “Carbon capture” is a means of mitigating the contribution of fossil fuel emissions to global warming, based on capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from large point sources such as fossil fuel power plants. WearAir is generously sponsoring this "Innovation Plaza" event in order to provide the opportunity for our local community to share in the very latest thinking on this key global issue. (The following evening, Dr. Knaebel will address a gathering of WearAir investors and any interested new investors. As the lead scientific advisor on WearAir’s project, Dr. Knaebel will be discussing the uniqueness of the WearAir separation cycle and its potential impact on the industrial gas industry.) Against this background, I would like to invite you to join us for a drink, a snack and loads of enlightened conversation at this "Innovation Plaza" networking event, taking place next Wednesday, February 24 at 5.30pm at the ORIC Kelowna Innovation Centre at 201-1405 St. Paul Street, Kelowna. The "entrance fee" to this event is just your business card - which will be entered into a "lucky draw" - but be sure to bring plenty more cards for networking! I do encourage you to take advantage of this really unique opportunity; to join us in giving Dr. Knaebel a warm Okanagan welcome; and to engage fully with other members of ORIC’s growing and dynamic community. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Kathryn at (250) 870-9028 or [email protected] - but do respond early as capacity is limited for this exciting event and all replies will be processed strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.
