Event Description: There are a number of issues and topics that affect all of us in our community. For us, as an organization, group of colleagues and friends, no topic has hit closer to home than the issues surrounding the availability and safety of urban mobility options. In July, we lost a close friend and colleague, Patricia Keenan, to a cycling accident in Kelowna. Some of the commentary from the community regarding the accident was quite polarizing; a bike versus car mentality. Given our close relationship to Patricia, we internalized this differently. For us this is about People; and the need for all of us to come together, be constructive, have conversations about things that matter, engage collectively in possibilities thinking, and build our community together. Who: Opening Address by Colin Basran, Mayor of the City of Kelowna and Martin Bell, Urban Systems Presentation by Chris Bruntlett, Modacity When: 6:00pm – 9:00pm, October 15th, 2015. Doors open at 6:00 with presentation and discussions from 6:30 – 8:00. Refreshments and appetizers to follow. Cash bar available. Download your tickets from Eventbrite here https://theendofbikesvscarsmultiple.eventbrite.ca. This event is by donation with all proceeds going to Patricia Keenan’s son. We are excited to partner with the Kelowna Cycling Coalition to host “The End of Bikes vs. Cars” where we will explore the benefits and possibilities of moving towards an even more inclusive transportation model that is accessible to people of all ages, abilities and economic means. The operative word in the concept public right of way – is “public” and access to our roads should be a privilege shared by all in a healthy and respectful way. The evening will concentrate on promoting a more human image of multi-modal transportation and working together as members of the same community to improve the quality of life for all road users.
