Event Description: This workshop is an introduction to the basic principles of grant writing, with a focus on the 1 or 2-page proposal that is often the “centrepiece” of an application. Outcomes of this workshop include: an understanding of the sections of a typical grant application; how to position and express your ideas to best meet the needs of readers and evaluators; how to increase the persuasive power of your writing; and how to improve the clarity and conciseness of your sentences. This is a FREE workshop powered by Accelerate Okanagan and UBC Okanagan Campus' School of Engineering. Coffee, tea and snacks will be provided. About Carolyn: Carolyn has taught communication in the School of Engineering at UBC’s Okanagan campus since 2005, and she is an active member of the American Society of Engineering Education and the IEEE Professional Communication Society. Carolyn has worked with professional engineers as well as both undergraduate and graduate students from many disciplines. Whether teaching a course or leading a workshop, her goal is the same: to help students or professionals increase their competence and confidence as communicators.
