Event Description: There’s been much debate among psychologists, economists and social scientists over the relationship between money and happiness – specifically, whether money can buy happiness. While some researchers would argue that it cannot, the recent Powerball lottery frenzy in the US strongly suggests that many of us believe that it can. Is money the key to happiness? Or, do time and life satisfaction mean more? Is it the ability to buy material goods and experiences that people desire, or the notion that money can provide a sense of security and the potential to lead a fulfilled life? Moderator Matthew Grant, Associate Director of Public Affairs, UBC Okanagan Panelists Dr. Mark Holder, Associate Professor, Irving K. Barber School of Arts & Sciences Ashley Whillans, BA’12, MA’14, UBC PhD Student, Social Psychology COST: $10 Registration deadline: Thursday, March 17, 2016. The program begins at 6:30 pm with a reception to follow.
