Event Description: Strut your Sugarskull best at this creative Day of the Dead Halloween Alternative The Rotary Centre for the Arts is cooking up the very first Sugar Skull Strut to take place Nov 1st. Sugar skulls are part of the Mexican celebration, El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), representing departed souls of loved ones. Sugar Skulls are a beautiful art form to be celebrated in this new cross cultural event with artisans, musicians and community. This unique communal spectacle combines traditional and modern interpretations with a parade of skeleton clad revellers, Marigold decorated ofrendas, a fabulous Artisan Mexican Marketplace, Margarita & Food Cash Bar, Sugar Skull face & costume Strut with prizes, Fire Poi & Black light faces by Kinshira, Okanagan Photo Star capturing your makeup magic, Mission Dance Flamenco Troupe and of course piñatas! Locarno is the Latin project of Juno award winning musician and Paperboys frontman, Tom Landa. The music, like him, is part Mexican but with strong doses of Cuban Son, Folk Music, Pop and Funk and will keep you dancing all nite.
