Canada's Looming Demographic Fiscal Squeeze
Christopher will present some basic facts and projections regarding the aging of the baby-boom generation and how it will affect the future paths of the labour force and living standards. He will also spell out the fiscal implications of this phenomenon, both on the spending and tax sides. Finally, he will present some arithmetic “thought experiments” showing possible approaches to dealing with these fiscal challenges. It argues the need for Canadian governments to begin thinking
about this problem and planning very soon.
