Kitimat Refinery Proposal
Canada’s push to deliver oilsands bitumen to overseas markets will significantly impact BC. How do we manage the environmental risk to BC while building economic benefit through job creation and tax revenue?
At $32 billion it will be the biggest single investment project ever completed in BC. With 6,000 construction jobs for five years and then thousands of new permanent jobs, it will create the most employment opportunities of any BC project ever. All of BC will benefit. Manufacturers of machinery, housing, clothing, food, etc. in the Okanagan and elsewhere will have enormous opportunities. After construction, ongoing government taxes will amount to billions of dollars per year.
The strategies developed today will be felt on the coast for generations. Let’s do it right. Mr. Black will discuss his proposal to refine bitumen in BC and to ship only refined fuels offshore.
